Community Legacy Fund

The National Highways Community Legacy Fund is open to all non-profit groups or organisations who are geographically close to motorways and major roads (that are maintained by National Highways) and have been impacted by our roadworks or diversion routes. The Fund welcomes a wide range of proposals, offering grants between £500 and £10,000. To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate that their project or initiative is located close to a National Highways road, has been impacted by our roadworks and meets at least one of the following criteria; Economic prosperity, Improving the environment, Community wellbeing, Equality, diversity, and inclusion. The aim of the Fund is to leave a positive legacy to the communities impacted by our work.

Summary

The aim of the Fund is to leave a positive legacy to the communities impacted by our work.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate that their project or initiative meets the following criteria:

  •         is geographically close to a motorway or major road that is maintained by National Highways and can demonstrate how they or the local community they work in have been impacted by National Highways roadworks or diversion routes.

  •         will contribute to National Highways social value pillars: Economic prosperity, Improving the environment, Community wellbeing, Equality, diversity

  •         will only involve capital costs, i.e. tangible items rather day to day items, for example arts supply storage but not paints

  •         contributes to National Highways scheme ambition of leaving a lasting positive legacy

Objectives

Your proposals must deliver positive value, lasting benefits, and a meaningful legacy for local people, communities, the environment, or the economy. To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate that their project or initiative is located near to a motorway or major road that is maintained by National Highways and can also demonstrate how they or the local community they work in have been impacted by National Highways roadworks or diversion routes.  The proposal also needs to meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Economic prosperity – investing in new skills, employment and training opportunities   

  • Improving the environment – making sustainable decisions that conserve natural resources and enhance ecosystems 

  • Community wellbeing – addressing health-related issues and improving connectivity, amenities, education, and heritage programmes for communities 

  • Equality, diversity, and inclusion – supporting the creation of a more equal society by increasing opportunities for under-represented group

Applicants will be contacted by the 9th March with the outcome of their application

Applicants must first submit an Expression of interest form to National Highways. If the initiative is deemed suitable, you will be invited to complete a full application.
